1: Means of Evil finds Mike Burden even more miserable than usual. Jenny has taken baby Mark and gone to stay with the manipulative Corinne Last... And all this because Mike suspects Corinne's ex-lover, Axel Kingman, of trying to poison his new bride with a lethal combination of alcohol and shaggy cap stew. In an attempt to prove his point, Mike sneaks into Corinne Last's garden and is able to collect a few of her special mushrooms before being chased off by her man-eating dog...
